Publishers who want to produce their own Kindle-ready ebooks can now do it directly from within the Adobe InDesign page layout software using a free plug-in thatAmazon has just released. The plug-in adds an “Export to Kindle” facility which generates the file in a few clicks, similar to InDesign’s native ePub export facility.

… Amazon launched a new tool which allows publishers to more easily make books available for Kindle by converting Adobe InDesign® files directly into the Kindle format. This is a free download, and it allows publishers and content creators to take existing print-ready files and convert them into the Kindle format with a couple of clicks. The conversion process takes only a few minutes, and provides high quality results. The tool is called Kindle for Adobe InDesign® (Beta), and include features that allow the user to:
* Maintain font styling information, text alignment, paragraph alignment
* Export images present in the book into the Kindle book
* Add a cover page, links within the book, bullets, numbering
* Specify the Table of Contents to use for the Kindle book
* Export tables
* Use the “Kindle Previewer,” already available as a free download to preview the content they have created.Kindle for Adobe InDesign® (Beta) works with Adobe InDesign® version CS4, CS5 in Windows (XP, Vista, 7) and Mac (10.5 and 10.6).
